Terms and Conditions

 

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY.

 

The “Can’t Live Without Tech” contest (the “Contest”) is organized by the Info-communication Development Authority of Singapore (“IDA”) and the IDM Chapter of Singapore Computer Society (“SCS”). The Contest is subject to the following terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”).

By participating in the Contest and submitting a Contest entry form available here you hereby agree to abide by all the Terms and Conditions set out herein.

 

Contest Period

1. Contest submission begins on 11 November 2011 at 1200 hours SGT and ends on 10 February 2012 at 1200hrs hours SGT. IDA and SCS reserve the right to extend the deadline of the Contest, if required.



Eligibility

2.

The contest is open to the following: 
• A Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident who is studying full-time in a Singapore schools, or
• A Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident who graduated (no earlier than 1 June 2011) from a Singapore school, or
• A foreigner who is currently studying full-time in Singapore for at least six months with a valid Student Visa.



3. Participants under eighteen (18) years of age must obtain consent of their parent or legal guardian in writing before participating in the Contest, failing which IDA and SCS may in their absolute discretion disqualify such entry. Participants under eighteen (18) years of age shall confirm that such consent has been obtained, by indicating the same on the Contest entry form, particulars of their parent or legal guardian from whom consent is obtained, and provide any further information if so requested by IDA. Should a participant under eighteen (18) years of age win the Contest, the winner will have to be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian when collecting the prize.



4. All participants are required to fill in their personal particulars (i.e. name, email, contact number and age) in the Contest entry form to be eligible to participate in the Contest. All details and particulars submitted must be true, accurate and complete. Any Contest entry form submitted with incomplete or invalid details will be disqualified immediately.

 


5. Each participant is only entitled to participate in the Contest using a single name, NRIC or passport number, email address and contact number. Participants may not enter the Contest using multiple identities. However, participants are allowed to submit more than one Contest entry using the same NRIC or passport number.



6. Employees of IDA, SCS and their immediate family members, as well as affiliated and subsidiary companies are not eligible to participate in the Contest.




Winner Selection and Prize Collection

7. Each participant shall submit an up to one (1)-minute long video that showcases the importance of technology in their lives, via the existing Student Infocomm Talent Portal at www.infocommtalent.sg.

 

 

8. Videos must meet the following requirements to qualify:
• Recorded in Video format.
• Recorded in English, Mandarin, Malay or Tamil (subtitles are compulsory for videos that are not submitted in English).
• Must not exceed more than one(1)-minute


 

9. The Contest prizes and detailed criteria for judging are listed here. IDA and SCS reserve the right to replace or substitute the prizes listed on IDA’s website, with any other prize of similar value, without prior notice to the participants of the Contest.



10. The finalists and winners of the Contest shall be decided by a judging panel which constitutes industry partners of IDA and SCS, and their respective representatives. The decision of IDA and SCS on all matters relating to the Contest, including the eligibility of participants and the selection of the finalists and winners, is final and no correspondence will be entertained. IDA and SCS reserve the right to disqualify Contest entries which are deemed irrelevant, offensive, and/or do not comply with these Terms and Conditions, without prior notice to the participants who have submitted those Contest entries.


 

11. IDA and SCS are not responsible for any votes of popularity via “Facebook connect” by members of the public, which may include votes which are lost, misdirected, fail to enter into the processing system, or are processed, reported, or transmitted late or incorrectly or are lost for any reason including any electronic, computer, or communication malfunction or error. IDA and SCS hereby disclaims responsibility for the inability of any members of the public to access any web-site associated with the Contest.

 

 

12. The winner of the Contest will be notified by email or phone.

 

 

13. IDA and SCS reserve the right to withhold the score achieved by any of the finalists and/or winners, and the selection process of any of the finalists and/or winners of the Contest.

 

 

14. The prizes (which are not cash) are not exchangeable for cash, credit, or other benefits-in-kind.



15. The prizes are only valid for collection at the date and time specified by IDA and SCS. The prizes will be forfeited if it is not collected by the winners within the time period specified.

 

 

16. Upon request by IDA and SCS, each winner shall provide proof of his or her identity and any other details deemed necessary and  relevant to verify the identity of each winner, as determined by IDA and SCS at their discretion.



General

17. IDA and SCS shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising in connection with the Contest, including any unreadable, incomplete, mutilated, tampered or irregular entry, any breakdown or malfunction in any computer system or equipment and any notice which is misdirected or lost in the post.

 

 

18. The participant who is the maker of the shortlisted Contest entry shall not reproduce the shortlisted Contest entry in any other format or use the same title for another entry.




19. The participant warrants that the Contest entry contains nothing which is (a) unlawful, (b) in breach of the applicable statutes, laws, regulations, or policies in Singapore, and (c) infringes the copyright or other rights of any third party. The participant further warrants that the exploitation of the shortlisted Contest entry will not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.

 


20. The participant warrants that he or she is the maker of the original work and the owner of the copyright in the Contest entry.

 


21. The participant warrants that the Contest entry has not been submitted for another competition, promotional event, and has not won previous prizes.

 


22. The participant shall keep IDA, SCS and persons or entities authorised by it fully indemnified against all losses, actions, liabilities, claims, proceedings, costs and damages arising out of any breach of the above warranties. The participant agrees that he or she will keep IDA and/or SCS and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents, indemnified against any and all such claims by third parties for breach of copyright or any other intellectual property right against IDA and/or SCS, or for any losses, costs or damages arising from the participant’s submission of the Contest entry to IDA and SCS, and his or her participation in the Contest.

 


23. Participants who submit their entries for the Contest will retain the copyright of their submission(s) subject to Clause 23 below.

 


24. Each participant hereby grants IDA, SCS and persons or entities authorised by it the worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, licence to use, perform the video content, reproduce, distribute, transmit, publish, display, edit, modify, alter, create derivative works based upon, combine with other works, and otherwise exploit such Contest entry throughout the world, in perpetuity, for all purposes, in any and all media, whether now known or hereafter devised, without notice, without restriction or payment, or approval from the participant. Each participant hereby grants IDA, SCS and persons or entities authorised by it the right to record and publish all or part of the proceedings of the Contest and related activities for broadcast and promotional purposes without the participant's consent or any payment thereof, including via print, broadcast and online media. IDA and SCS shall retain the rights (including any intellectual property rights) to any material recorded for broadcast and promotional purposes herein.

 


25. Each finalist or winner consents to the public disclosure of his/her name, identification /passport number and photographs, as the case may be, for publicity purposes, and consents to participating in the publicity activities of IDA and SCS in relation to the Contest, and to the use of any data provided by such winner for any future publicity effort by IDA and SCS, without any payment or compensation thereof.

 


26. If for any reason any aspect of the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond the control of IDA and SCS which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, IDA and SCS may in its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this Contest, or invalidate any affected submissions.

 


27. Notwithstanding anything in these Terms and Conditions, IDA and SCS reserves the right at any time in its absolute discretion to determine and/or amend, by addition to, subtraction from or variation of, these Terms and Conditions without prior notification, including but not limited to the eligibility terms and criteria, the selection of winners, the timing of any act to be done and all participants to this Contest shall be bound by these amendments. All changes will be posted on this webpage.

 


28. A person who is not a party to these Terms and Conditions shall have no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act to enforce any of these Terms and Conditions.

 


29. In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any brochures, marketing or promotional materials relating to the Contest, these Terms and Conditions, and all its subsequent variations, shall prevail.

 


30. These Terms and Conditions and all its subsequent variations shall be subject to, governed by and interpreted in accordance with the domestic Laws of the Republic of Singapore for every purpose. All participants hereby submit to the jurisdiction of the Singapore courts in the determination of any dispute arising in connection with the Contest.
