The Infocomm Clubs have been up and running successfully for the third consecutive year and have changed the lives of many students by showing them that they are capable of so much more than they expect. The various competitions, workshops, projects, field trips and work attachments have highlighted a whole new myriad of infocomm possibilities that will inspire and encourage them to be at the forefront of technology.

Youth Infocomm Day (3 November 2008)The inaugural Youth Infocomm Day was a day dedicated to youths, who embrace ifnocomm to make the way we live, learn, work and play, all the more meaningful, fun and exciting. It was also a day to celebrate a year of infocomm achievements.
On this special occasion, winners of the National Infocomm Clubs Awards were revealed and 16 outstanding student leaders were appointed as Infocomm Club Ambassadors.

Field Trips: Visit to iSpace (13 March 2008)During the March school holidays, a Visit to iSpace event was organized for all Infocomm Club members.
It was a day filled with lots of fun activities and interactions among the club members. The members went on a tour of iSpace, and also engaged in an interactive dialogue session with Infocomm Professionals from Apple and iPOS.

Study Trips: Infocomm Club Study Trip to Silicon Valley 2008 (4 – 13 June 2008)
39 Infocomm Club members went on a one-week study trip to Silicon Valley. The students get to visit many Infocomm Companies and speak with Infocomm Professionals from companies like Intel, Suns Microsystems, Electronic Arts and many more. What’s more, they also get to meet James Gosling, the creator of Java!
Besides visiting companies, the students also had a lot of fun visiting places like Stanford University, Tech Museum of Innovation, Fisherman’s Wharf, NBC Universal, Warner Brothers Studios and last but not least, Universal Studios, and they were treated to an overview of the latest technologies, the work culture and various aspects of the Infocomm industry in the US.
The learning and insights gained from the trip have certainly given the students a whole new perspective of Infocomm!

Workshops & Seminars
Apple Learning Institute 2008 (11 March 2008)
Apple Learning Institute 2008, an initiative by Apple, was held at Meritus Mandarin Singapore on 11 March. The symposium aimed to be a platform for teacher-professional conferencing, and to allow teachers to be better informed of the Apple perspective in education, and new innovations in this field.
SMU-IDA Holiday Infocomm Workshop (30 May 2008)
During the June holidays, SMU organized a half-day Infocomm Workshop for all Primary School Infocomm Club members.
The session started with an inspiring Infocomm Connect Session with Mr Wong Ming Fai, the product manger of Oracle. Following that, 2 separate workshops were conducted by the student facilitators of SMU, where the club members were introduced to Alice Programming and Macromedia Flash.
Through these courses, students learn how to create animated web pages, as well as learn programming with 3D animation. The students enjoyed themselves and it was indeed a holiday well spent! :)
IT Fiesta@RP (2 – 6 June 2008)
IT Fiesta@RP, a joint collaboration between the Republic Polytechnic (School of Infocomm and Technology) and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is organized during the June Holidays for the Secondary Infocomm Club members.
Through this 5 days camp, students engaged in Infocomm talks, visits to places of interests in Singapore, participated in teambuilding activities, and attended workshops where they get to learn games creation, photo editing and Rurple programming.
After the 5 days camp, participants walked away not only with new perspectives and knowledge, but also newfound friends along with many wonderful memories.
Open Source Technology Seminar (18 July 2008)
The Open Source Technology Seminar is a collaboration effort among Novell, Global Software Academy (GSA), and Singapore Management University (SMU) for local MOE educators who are keen to widen their IT knowledge and to learn more about how open source technologies can help them in their teaching. Throughout the half-day seminar, the MOE educators were introduced to the latest open source technologies and what is available and useful for them.
Adobe Education Solutions Seminar (27 August 2008)
On 27 August, Adobe conducted an Adobe Education Solutions Seminar for all educators, principals of schools and MOE staffs to share on how Adobe Education Solutions can enhance the teaching and learning experience through innovative software and curriculum.

SP Digital Media & IT Fiesta 2008 (Oct – December 2008)
Singapore Polytechnic’s School of Digital Media and Information Technology organised a series of seminars, workshops and camps from Oct – Dec 2008 for infocomm club members.
- Imagine the Digital Possibilities....
This is a 3-day camp that aims to introduce students to the immense possibilities of digital media. Students will learn how to create 3D objects, animate them using popular software MAYA, After Effects and Flash. Students will add effects and produce a video clip. They will use computer programs to manipulate the video clip in an interactive application.
- Game-novator: Make your Own Game!
"Game-novator: Make your own Game!" aims to equip secondary school students with the basic skills in 2D and 3D game developments using cutting edge Microsoft technologies, Popfly (for 2D Silverlight games) and XNA Game Studio (for Xbox 360 games) respectively. The workshops conducted during the boot camp will help the students to jumpstart their game development processes, from installation of necessary software to creating their very first game.

National Schools Photo-Art Competition 2008

The National Schools Photo-Art Competition 2008 is an annual event hosted by Canberra Secondary School. It was based on the theme of 'The Spirit of Olympism’ in order to show their support for Singapore’s bid for the Youth Olympic Games.
This competition aims to promote the use of digital media as a tool to create awareness of the spirit of Olympism. It also aims to develop and raise the visibility of photographic and creative graphics talent.

Inter Primary Infocomm Challenge (iPiC)
(19 – 20 June 2008)
The Inter Primary Infocomm Challenge (iPiC) is an annual event that has been organized and hosted by Raffles Institution InfoComm Club (RIICC) since 2005. iPIC aims to promote a culture of appreciation for IT among primary school students, and to allow primary school students to interact with others of their own age who also have a passion for Infocomm and robotics.

See² (25th – 27th November 2008)
See² is an annual conference hosted by Hwa Chong Institution and co-organised by Nanyang Girls' High School, currently being in its third iteration as of 2008.
Involving 100 students nominated for their leadership potential from Infocomm Clubs of secondary schools all over Singapore, See² aims to revolutionise the local scene for Infocomm Clubs by serving as a platform for student leaders to brainstorm ideas for the transformation of their clubs.

Theme: Connections
See² 2008 aims to bring inter-club issues into the limelight, bringing participants from the limited point of view of their own individual Infocomm Club into the point of view of the collective group of Infocomm Clubs in Singapore.
This would open up countless possibilities for members of Infocomm Clubs in Singapore, as they would now not be limited to the abilities of their own individual Infocomm Clubs; rather, they would have access to a wealth of manpower and shared expertise from this new combined body.
