Workshops
In a bid to constantly improve ourselves and expand our knowledge, various workshops were organised. Attended by both students and teachers alike, the learnings and insights provided all with a clear picture on the impact of infocomm.
Teachers Technology Seminar (5 July 2007)
During this year’s teachers’ technology seminar, they were treated to an overview of the wide spectrum of focus areas offered by the Infocomm Clubs Programme. “Interesting technologies presented during the seminar could be integrated into teaching and learning purposes,” said Sophia Tan, Infocomm Club@Chua Chu Kang Primary School.
The workshop included training in areas such as New Media, Mobile Media & Games Development and 3D Visualisation and Digital Media.
SMU’s June Holiday Workshop (23 June 2007)
This intensive but exciting workshop kept our club members busy during the June holidays, resulting in them appreciating infocomm even more.Organised by SMU students – who became mentors to our club members – the programmes covered included Video Editing with Adobe Premiere Elements, Web Development and Open Source.
Video Editing with Adobe Premiere Elements taught them how to do video editing, and create your own video and Visual Web Developer Express was useful in helping them develop more interactive webpages. They even got to learn more about Open Source and how to use open source software to set up personal blogs, businesses or community platforms. Indeed, it was a holiday well spent!

Work Attachments: A taste of the real digital world
The Infocomm Clubs industry attachment programme offers our students work attachment opportunities in real infocomm companies. This year 14 students from nine schools were attached to companies such as Evohub Pte Ltd, GUI Solutions Pte Ltd, IBM, IDA, ICUS Pte Ltd, Iterate Pte Ltd, Microsoft Singapore, NEC Solutions Asia Pacific Pte Ltd and SQL View Pte Ltd.
“A fresh and completely different experience. Unlike some other jobs (like fast-food restaurants), this one has given me a lot of exposure and insights into the real working world. It puts my thinking skills to the test too.” says Wayne Chia of Infocomm Club@Yuying Secondary School, who did his attachment with IDA.
Like Wayne, the month long stint at these companies allowed our students to put their newly acquired skills to use whilst inculcating professionalism and good work etiquette, preparing themselves to go into the real working world.
