Objectives
The Infocomm Clubs Programme is a
Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) for primary, secondary and junior college
students. It aims to excite students about infocomm in a fun and meaningful way
by helping them to learn new infocomm skills and to cultivate leadership and
entrepreneurship capabilities at an early age.
The Objectives of the Infocomm Clubs
Programme are to
- Excite students about the possibilities of infocomm
- Equip students with relevant infocomm skills
- Provide students with opportunities to express creativity,
entrepreneurship and community spirit
Programme Description
Infocomm
Clubs covers one or more specialisations such as digital media, mobile
technologies, software development, security & networking and games
development. Activities under the programme include training, project work,
mentorship, workshops, competitions and collaboration with other schools,
locally and internationally. Schools under the Infocomm Clubs Programme may
also collaborate to share facilities, extend training, provide ambassadors and
undertake joint activities.
Infocomm Clubs is aligned with the MOE's
Leadership, Enrichment, Achievement, Participation and Service (LEAPS)
framework where students acquire infocomm skills and cultivate leadership and
entrepreneurship capabilities at an early age. The programme is an initiative
by IDA, supported by MOE and in collaboration with key industry partners.
Benefits
Through the club activities, students can appreciate technologies better, and creativiely apply their skills to communicate ideas and use them in their school work. The clubs can also be a supplementary resource for teachers to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
Students can enjoy:
- CCA points
- Opportunities for project work and community service projects, where the best will be showcased at various competitions and events
- Potential credit exemptions/direct admission opportunities into infocomm courses of IHLs
- IDA funding support to talented students for participating in international competitions, conferences, industry attachments & certifications
- IDA certificates for students completing 3 years of Club membership

Infocomm Club Ambassadors Programme
A total of 119 ambassador nominees from 83 secondary schools/junior colleges and 36 primary schools were received this year. Out of which, 38 candidates were shortlisted for interviews.
The new batch of 2011/2012 Infocomm Club Ambassadors will be appointed on Youth Infocomm Day on 9 November 2010. They are:

National Infocomm Club Awards 2010
The National Infocomm Club Awards (NICA) is held every year to showcase the works and creativity of today's youth through their works.
The theme of this year's National Infocomm Club Awards is 'Green ICT' and over 100 submissions from primary, secondary schools and junior colleges had been received! Six finalists from each category (primary and secondary/junior colleges) have been selected by a panel of judges and they were awarded during
the National Infocomm Club Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with Youth
Infocomm Day on 9 November 2010. There was also a 'Students' Choice' category,
where students can vote via SMS for their favourite projects!

Boon Lay Garden Primary School - ICT Busters

Entry Format: Flash Animation
“ICT Busters” is about going green with ICT and saving the environment. The objective of the project is to inform people not to waste precious resources like electricity, reduce the amount of unwanted computer collected over the years and spread awareness about green ICT.
Edgefield Primary School - Saving the Environment (The Earth)
Entry Format: Flash Animation
Edgefield Primary School’s project presents information on how and why every one of us must save the Earth. A simple quiz with a score function also tests the user’s knowledge on saving the Earth.
Fuhua Primary School - The Story of the Water Bottle
Entry Format: Video
‘The Story of the Water Bottle’ shows the outcome of a used plastic water bottle when it is being thrown into the rubbish. The project hopes to bring awareness to the audience that most water bottles are not biodegradable and they end up in the rubbish dump area. The objective of the video is to make students more conscientious about the use of plastic water bottles.

River Valley Primary School - Green Travellers
Entry Format: Flash Animation
The objective of the ‘Green Travellers’ project is to highlight the issue on the emission of greenhouse gases by the fossil fuel burnt by modern transportation over the past decades. It also includes information of what has been happening because of Man’s demands on Earth. With the help of technology, everyone can do their part to save Nature and our lives.
Rosyth School - Go Green Rosyth
Entry Format: Website
Through the form of an interactive website, this project aims to encourage students and members of the public to Go Green. Features of the site include information and tips on how to go green, video interview, interactive flash games and online competition.
White Sands Primary School - The Crabby's Adventure
Entry Format: Game
The Crabby’s Adventure is an educational computer game that the students have created to encourage lower primary pupils to learn about the importance of keeping the environment green.
(B) Secondary & Junior College Category
Crescent Girls' School - The Green Trail @ CGS
Entry Format: Game
The Green Trail was created to relay the message of going green. The objectives of the green trail are to heighten the awareness of going green in a fun and interactive way, promote going green as a way of life as well as to advocate Green Lab@CGS as a model for future computer labs.
Jurong Secondary School - The Folding Bicycle in Singapore - The Green Journey
Entry Format: Video
The use of folding bikes in Singapore. The aim of this project is to bring awareness to schools and the general public on the benefits of commuting by folding bicycle coupled with the public transport system in Singapore.
Maris Stella High School - GREENoledge
Entry Format: Mobile Application
The project is to test the general public’s knowledge of the extent of pollution on the planet. It is also to inform the public on what are the effects of pollution on the planet. Some of the innovative aspects are that the quiz features over 80 questions about 16 different countries. People using the application are also able to view individual country information from Wikipedia to do research on the question.
Nan Chiau High School - GreenTips

GreenTips were created to allow users a convenient and accessible platform for the public to share and search for tips on how people from all walks of life do their part in saving the environment. This will help to create a central repository of innovative and practical ideas that everyone can be involved and play a part to save the environment.
Victoria School - Green-i-city
Entry Format: Game
The project, ‘Green-i-city’ is based on popular games such as SimCity, Farmville, and Restaurant City. The objective is to raise awareness on how everyone can all make ICT more eco-friendly.
Temasek Junior College - Greenology
Entry Format: Game
The project aims to recreate the atmosphere of Maxis’s Simcity game in our flash game. The innovative part of the game is to create a simple yet comprehensive interdependency between ‘good’ building and ‘bad’ buildings. Players will have to plan it out to achieve a true marriage of civilisation and nature. The building system is also made similar to Tetris and the players are able to manipulate many aspects of the game.

iSpace: The clubhouse for Infocomm Club members

Located at the Singapore Science Centre, iSpace is the state-of-the-art arena which has been designed with a borderless design concept, innovative presentation style and interactive displays.
Employing the intensive use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, iSpace will feature the latest developments in infocomm in a way that is experiential and immersive. Here, visitors will be able to see, hear, touch and play with the some of the coolest exhibits in the industry.
iSpace is part of iFuture, the latest collaboration between Singapore Science Centre (SSC) and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). iFuture seeks to create an interactive and engaging experience for visitors. This is in line with SSC’s vision to continually promote interest and learning in science and technology, and IDA’s goal to excite youth about the power of infocomm, and to encourage them to consider the industry as a career choice.
The ‘clubhouse’ for Infocomm Clubs, iFuture will also be a place where club members can look forward to participating in competitions and talks by world renowned infocomm experts.
