The NEU PC Plus Programme, which aims to help lower-income families get access to infocomm resources such as computers and broadband connectivity, has benefited more than 28,000 needy households since November 1999.
The PC-Bundle Scheme under the NEU PC Plus Programme offers new computers at subsidised rates, bundled with free software and three years of free broadband access, to needy families with school-going children.
Students from low-income families who are unable to co-pay can render some form of community service instead and receive a fully-paid PC with assistance from the iNSPIRE Fund.
In addition, the Broadband-Only scheme provides a three-year subsidised broadband service to needy households that own computers but cannot afford broadband access.
In June 2009, the NEU PC Plus programme was enhanced to provide for: higher qualifying household income cap; lower co-payment amount by recipients through a two-tier subsidy; and more choices of PC models.
