Imagine Cup 2010 Awards Ceremony – 26 May 2010
“Software!” boomed Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft, when speaking about the future of computing. Taking the opportunity to share his views with youths on the infocomm industry and his career at the Imagine Cup 2010 Awards Ceremony, Mr Ballmer also spoke about his first foray into Microsoft and shared that IT was the “best place to be”.

Mr Ballmer then presented prizes to the winners of the Imagine Cup 2010: Software Design Competition. The overall winners, Temasek Polytechnic, will represent Singapore at the World Wide Finals in Warsaw, Poland. At the awards ceremony, students also learnt about new and upcoming Microsoft products from Microsoft Evangelists.
Students from our Infocomm Clubs and our Infocomm Scholars who were invited to join in this rare opportunity to meet one of the prominent leaders of the infocomm industry had the following to say about Steve Balmer and the event:
It was fun and inspiring. The duration was alright. The three screens and a cloud demo was particularly interesting and engaging. The speaker was engaging and clear. The demos inspired me to be more inclined towards the infocomm career and I am now more motivated to choose infocomm as my future career path. - Lee Ming Jun, Infocomm Club Ambassador, Nan Hua High School
I found Steve Ballmer's talk very engaging and inspiring. He has his own ways of engaging his audience very well, and it is not only because he is famous. He talked about the use of InfoComm Technology in the future and inspired me to do much better in my studies. - Ng Soo Sian Amanda, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, IIS Scholar
He was very inspiring and full of energy. It is good exposure to have a chance to listen to leaders like him. - Loh Chin Choong, Desmond, NIS Scholar
Steve Ballmer's talk was very inspiring and motivative. He encourages us to believe in that we have chosen the correct path of infocomm, be it computer science, visual arts etc. He made us know no limits on the power of Infocomm. - Kwan Yi Yan, Montfort Secondary School

National Infocomm Scholarship (NIS) Teambuilding Session – 23 January 2010
To provide our National Infocomm Scholars the opportunity to meet their fellow NIS peers as well as counterparts in the infocomm industry, the IDA NIS team introduced a new bonding and teambuilding event in January 2010. This is in addition to the networking sessions held annually for the National Infocomm Scholars to catch up with their sponsor companies, fellow scholars as well as IDA’s Senior Leadership Team.
An “Amazing Race” type competition was organised for the scholars to encourage them to get to know one another through various challenges. As part of the day’s activities, the scholars also participated in group discussions to brainstorm on ways to enhance the NIS programme. One major issue of discussion was the setting up of an NIS Alumni network to create a community whereby the National Infocomm Scholars can share experiences not only within themselves, but with others, on the infocomm industry.
