At Youth Infocomm Day 2010, NTU School of Computer Engineering will be showcasing a project called 'Virtual Keyboard for Paralyzed Patients using 8-directional Eye Movement'.

This project aims to develop an EOG-based virtual keyboard for communication purposes. When conventional EOG-based virtual keyboard uses 4 directional eye movements, proposed system exploits 8 directional eye movements (up, down, left, right, up-right, down-right, up-left, down-left), which in turn offers improved typing speed. An algorithm has been developed to differentiate EOG of 8-directional cornea movements.

Movement of the cornea of eye in different directions produces distinct bioelectric signals called electrooculogram (EOG). EOG corresponding to multi-directional cornea movements can be used to develop a communication channel for severely paralyzed patients.
Come, catch a glimpse of a dynamic and cosmopolitan university at work and play.
